Islands are magical places that have long captivated Nathan's creativity and St Barth is iconic, beautiful and inspiring all at the same time.

From the moment I first visited the island of Saint Barthelemy, I was completely captivated. Naturally beautiful, seductive, mysterious… St Barth embodies all of the elements I look for when choosing a location to shoot,” say Coe.

The list of its universal appeal goes on and on. So, how to capture that essence through a camera? Coe trusted his process and trusted the island and the mystery and serendipity of St Barth played into his hand, giving him permission to capture her grace and he responded with his practiced sleight of lens. The result is this series of images that the gallery launches this fall.

Recognized for his evocative, cinematic beach landscapes, Coe is also known for introducing blithe, human protagonists. The nude female figure—often shown with her back to the camera, as if blissfully unaware of the artist’s presence—representing the innate human connection to nature.

The lead work, Salvation, Coe says “reminds me of Christ the Redeemer in Rio. The model is towering over Gustavia, protecting and watching over the town with her power, grace, and confidence. Salvation radiates the power of beauty and poise, setting the scene for a series that I hope you find as captivating as the island itself. I spent a long time deciding where best to shoot in my style here — nudes shot in a classical, timeless style in iconic locations.”

Revive” is a body of work inspired by the beauty and restorative qualities of the island. Celebrating the female form, the collection captures a sense of newness and revival. Individually, each image exemplifies confidence and renewed hope.

Collectively, Revive inspires a vision of new beginnings and strength. With this new series, Coe hopes to have captured the island’s timeless wonder. The images communicate his classical style of weaving in the enduring beauty of the female form into various mise en scène. With a stunning attention to light and shadows, angles and lines, and compositional perspective, these works leave the viewer wanting more. Here, Coe puts forth a cutting edge grouping of high-style photographs, making up one of his most innovative body of work yet.
