Established in 2011, Space Gallery St Barth is a contemporary art gallery dedicated to showcasing painting, photography, and sculpture by established and emerging artists. The gallery specializes in working with living artists with a strong European flavor. Since its inception, Space Gallery St Barth has built an impressive roster of artists, curated international exhibitions, participated in major art fairs including the Venice Biennale, and organized museum exhibitions. Today, the gallery has locations in St Barth and New York City and regularly exhibits in Monaco and Miami.
Space Gallery St Barth is an inclusive art space. The artwork we exhibit evokes an ambiance, and our galleries reflect that. We want our collectors to linger, enjoy, contemplate, and hang-out to enjoy the artwork in our space. We encourage conversation and educating our collectors to make the art world a less daunting and more accessible and transparent place. Our client is someone who loves to travel, fashion, and design but beyond that: a life enriched by the beauty of art in their life. In a world with so many issues, our gallery offers an escape – it is an oasis of positive and aspirational images that celebrate the beauty of this world without political or other agenda.
The gallery was founded by partners Maria Angela Ventura and Natalie Clifford in 2011. St Barth is gifted with ambitious, precursors, passionate, fearless, and free-spirited women. Many entrepreneurs and countless women have participated in the success of the island over the years and Maria Angela is undoubtedly one of these women. An Italian art collector, and one of the founding partners of Space Gallery St Barth, she discovered the island thirty years ago. Maria Angela is a disciple of legendary art dealer Holly Solomon and has a natural eye for art, which she has been collecting for decades. She shares a passion for championing the new and untried and celebrating an eclectic mix of talents. When they met, Natalie Clifford was Director of Eden Rock Gallery in St Barth from 2005-2011. During this period, Natalie organized a series of high-profile collaborations between Eden Rock Gallery and blue-chip galleries including Gagosian, Tony Shafrazi Gallery, and Mary Boone Gallery. Maria Angela and Natalie have a shared passion and vision and so the gallery was conceived and founded.
The gallery’s goal is to bring a selection of world-class artists to the island and shine the light on the art world for residents and visitors alike. "Many art collectors and aficionados come to the island and, at that time, we just wanted to create something, make a difference, and be able to contribute to the island’s cultural influence. It was a risk to take, more than ten years later, not only am I joyful about it, I am proud," says Maria Angela.
Late 2018 marked a new chapter for Space Gallery St Barth with the launch of another permanent gallery in New York City. “We have a strong repeat clientele who continue to grow their collection with us as well as attracting new clients and we see many of familiar faces in both our locations. Our program is based on a strong European flavor. We are really passionate about the artists we carry and promote, at a worldwide level," says Natalie.
