Isabelle Lindbergh Angel (Autour du rocher, Saint Barthélémy), 2023 Limited edition black & white Piezography print photography
Space Gallery St Barth and Spirit Art Space present Between Realms, new work by photographer Isabelle Lindbergh. This captivating series celebrates the raw beauty of nature and humanity’s connection to it. Her work is minimalist yet powerful and her signature silver veil harnesses the wind’s essence, leaving a poetic narrative through the untouched landscapes of St Barth and beyond.
The exhibit opens on December 22 at Space Gallery in the Carré D’Or in Gustavia, and moves to Spirit Art Space, La Pointe, Gustavia, on December 27. In 2022, tired of the rigidity and artificiality of large productions, Isabelle salvaged a simple piece of fabric, which became the central thread of her work.
Models participated voluntarily, driven solely by the desire for photography in harmony with untouched landscapes free of human intervention in Saint Barthélemy. Using a 16-metre-long silver sheet, Lindbergh harnesses the power of the wind, making the invisible, visible.
Isabelle’s models are more than mere silhouettes before the lens. They embody stories, pasts, futures, and profound determination. Posing for Isabelle means accepting a demanding challenge, both physically and mentally. It is an almost meditative experience, leaving participants forever changed. Her photo shoots, often set in extreme or barren environments, challenge her models with extraordinary trials. Climbing mountains, reaching altitudes of 5,000 meters, or braving freezing temperatures of -5 °C under biting winds… Isabelle and her collaborators face these extreme conditions together. These moments, combining effort and self-transcendence, create genuine alchemy between the photographer and her muses.
After exploring the warmth of Saint Barthélemy and the icy landscapes of Iceland, Isabelle Lindberg continued her artistic quest in the mountains of Peru.
This new series marks a pivotal step in her journey, both a continuation and deepening of her photographic project. At an altitude of 4,850 meters, Isabelle and her team faced oxygen deprivation, unpredictable climatic conditions, and the dizzying vastness of the landscapes. These extreme challenges give her photographs a unique intensity, merging human strength with the majesty of nature.
