"Soap Bubble Paintings" represent vibrant and experimental work by Jiří Georg Dokoupil, a pioneering international artist known for his unconventional techniques and boundless creativity, are on show at Space Gallery in Gustavia. Part of its exclusive winter exhibit, Space Gallery offers a rare opportunity to experience the magic of Dokoupil’s evocative fusion of spontaneity and artistry.

The "Soap Bubble Paintings" are created by bursting colored soap bubbles onto canvas, and reflect theartist’s playful, experimental spirit, capturing fleeting moments of beauty in dynamic, colorful forms. He mixes other materials into the paint in order to create luminous illusions. With these paintings the artist has found the source of his light in the constant movement and unrepeatable action.

Dokoupil was born in Czechoslovakia in 1954, and his career has spanned decades and continents, marked by a refusal to conform to a single artistic style. A founding member of the “Junge Wilde” and “Mülheimer Freiheit” art collectives in the 1980s, Dokoupil quickly rose to prominence for his radical approach to neo-expressionism and his innovative use of materials.

His broader oeuvre includes over 60 series and 100 unique artistic techniques, and has been featured in solo exhibitions worldwide, from the Deichtorhallen in Hamburg to the Paul Kasmin Gallery in New York, and his work is found in prestigious public collections, including the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Museum of Modern Art in Cologne.
