With her new solo exhibition, titled Revelations, Mexican artist Sandra Mazoy arrives at Space Gallery in New York City. Running from October 29, 2026, through January 5, 2027, the exhibition offers an opportunity to share her emotional universe and her distinctive way of perceiving the world, opening up a space in which viewers can develop their own interpretations of the images.

Mazoy is currently based in Madrid, where her studio serves as a constant laboratory for exploring shapes and colors. Each artwork represents a different path for her, grounded in the belief that this creative driving force never runs dry, continually opening up limitless combinations and discoveries.

Her creative process begins with an in-depth exploration of form and color, as creating means venturing into a realm of infinite possibilities. This uncertainty fuels her inspiration, leaving her always open to the possibility that the next piece may lead to an unexpected and entirely different result.

Mazoy does not typically begin with a predetermined theme. Instead, titles emerge once a work is complete, serving as a way to acknowledge what has surfaced throughout the creative journey. Her visual language develops organically, beginning with lines that gradually come together to form a balanced composition, whether through an abundance of elements or a more minimalist approach.

Between Form and Color

Only afterward does the choice of color come into play, completing and transforming the formal world of the piece. At the heart of her artistic exploration lies precisely the relationship between form and color—a symbiosis in which each component retains its identity while modifying and enhancing the other. For Mazoy, this connection is an intrinsic value of the artwork and one of the fundamental keys to her artistic pursuit.

Her painting, however, is also an exercise in introspection. When faced with a completed painting, the artist often wonders where the chromatic and visual dimension that inhabits her comes from. This question becomes a way for her to gain a deeper understanding of herself. In this sense, painting is a process of personal discovery through which the artist gradually comes to know and recognize herself.

Everything that appears in her compositions originates in her own experience—life events, visions, memories, and images that have been part of her life. Her creative process thus becomes a space where the conscious and the intuitive meet, and where their intersection takes on new meaning through form and color.

This is where the exhibition's title comes from: each painting is, in some way, a revelation—a fragment of Mazoy's inner world that emerges and becomes visible. Each painting is therefore also a portrait of her story, her emotions, and her existence, gradually revealing both this universe of shapes and colors and the artist herself.
