Jean-Philippe’s work is characterized by a sense of joie de vivre. He celebrates the free-spirit and his works are fun, playful, and always mixed with the artist’s signature humor and cheekiness.  Jean-Philippe captures the essence of the women and soul of the landscapes he photographs.

“Simplicity is the first word that comes to my mind to describe my work. I stick to the essential kit. I work without assistants/team. I always shoot in natural light and never use more than two lenses. As a result, there is no artifice in my photographs. They have a simplicity that, paradoxically, is hard to achieve. It has always been a passion over reason. Authenticity and simplicity," comments Piter.

Jean-Philippe was born in Senegal before moving to France at 16 to study photography. He began his career as a decoration and architecture photographer working for Philippe Starck and Christian Liaigre and then moved to Saint-Barthélemy FWI in 1997. The same year, he began publishing his magazine Pure St Barth documenting the unique lifestyle and people of St-Barth which through the years has become the visual reference of the island. Piter is well known also for his portraits of celebrities, underwater series, and art nudes. His work has been published in magazines around the world: Photo, GQ, Vanity Fair, Citizen K, W, Vogue UK, Interiors, Numéro, and Times magazine.
