Event organized by Charles Moreau, le Collectivité de Saint-Barthélemy and le musée territorial du Wall House

Space Gallery St Barth is proud to have six of its artists featured in the 5th edition of the Salon des Artistes de Saint-Barthélemy, held at the Wall House Territorial Museum (Musée Territorial du Wall House). Organized by Charles Moreau, Director of the Museum, in collaboration with the Collectivité of Saint-Barthélemy, this cultural event celebrates the island’s artistic talent and creative spirit.

Launched in 2022, the Salon des Artistes highlights the work of local artists and artists who share a special connection with, or draw inspiration from, the island of Saint-Barthélemy. This year, six artists represented by Space Gallery St Barth are participating in the exhibition: Rémy de Haenen, Isabelle Lindbergh, Marco Glaviano, Jason Bereswill, Julie Fumat, and Charles Moreau, Director of the Wall House Museum, who is also an artist himself.

Unlike previous editions, traditionally held in June, this year’s Salon took place in September, bringing together a diverse community of artists and offering visitors the opportunity to discover a wide range of creative expressions.

Visitors are invited to explore the exhibition and vote for their favorite works. Prizes are awarded in three categories:

1. Best Plastic Arts (paintings / drawings);

2. Photography Work

3. and Sculpture.

The Salon des Artistes de Saint-Barthélemy is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the island’s vibrant artistic community and the many creative voices that contribute to its unique cultural identity.

Rémy de Haenen Pique Nique Rose a Gouverneur, 2023, Oil on canvas, 100 x 100 cm (39.37 x 39.37 in)

Rémy de Haenen carries forward the legendary legacy of his father, who was the first pilot to land in St. Barth, founder of Eden Rock, and the island’s first mayor. Though born on the Caribbean island of Martinique, Rémy spent his childhood in St. Barth, where he formed cherished memories and gathered countless stories that continue to shape his creative vision.

His paintings are deeply rooted in personal recollections of the Caribbean’s paradisiacal landscapes and the island’s distinctive way of life. This year, at Le Salon des Artistes, Rémy presents Pique Nique Rose à Gouverneur (2023), a vibrant oil on canvas that captures the carefree pleasures of a Caribbean picnic. Rendered in expressive shades of pink, blue, and yellow, the composition features an inviting spread of donuts, fruit cakes, and juices. Beyond the colorful feast, a glimpse of St. Barth’s turquoise sea and a distant island on the horizon evokes the beauty and serenity of the surrounding landscape.

Rémy’s playful use of color and nostalgic connection to island life make this joyful celebration of Caribbean culture a compelling contender for the Plastic Arts award category.

Marco Glaviano Gintare, Villa Wirz (Palermo), 2023,  Limited edition photography 80 x 60 cm (31.5 x 23.62 in)

Legendary photographer Marco Glaviano is renowned for his influential work in fashion and portrait photography, having captured some of the world’s most iconic supermodels and celebrities over the past six decades. A pioneer of digital photography in the early 1990s, Glaviano’s refined eye and mastery of light have made him a defining figure in contemporary visual culture.

On view at this year’s edition of Le Salon des Artistes de Saint-Barthélemy is Gintare, Villa Wirz (Palermo), 2023, a sépia tone color photograph portraying model Gintare seated on the floor beneath an open window of the historic Villa Wirz in Palermo, Sicily. Smoking a cigarette and seemingly seeking refuge from the oppressive heat in the shade, she inhabits the scene with an unguarded, almost cinematic presence. The rustic surroundings and rich, natural colors lend the photograph an intimate, visceral quality, while the interplay of light, shadow, and stillness suggests a deeper symbolism of vulnerability, contemplation, and the passage of time.

Moving away from the polished glamour often associated with fashion photography, Glaviano reveals a more spontaneous and human side of his artistic vision. This evocative work is a compelling contender for the Photography Work award category.

Julie Fumat Gyp Sea Beach Club, 2026, Limited edition Watercolor Print 42 x 29.7 cm (16.54 x 11.69 in)

French artist Julie Fumat studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and worked as a gallery owner before developing a multidisciplinary practice blending photography, photomontage, and painting. Now based in Saint-Barthélemy, she works under the name Moon St Barth, creating delicate ink and watercolour pieces that celebrate the island’s charm. Her St Barth Watercolor Collection features limited-edition prints that play with light, colour, and transparency, capturing iconic locations with warmth, nostalgia, and a distinctly island-inspired sensibility.

This year, at
Le Salon des Artistes de Saint-Barthélemy, Julie presents Gyp Sea Beach Club, 2026, a larger-format work from her beloved St Barth Watercolor Collection. The vibrant composition depicts the unmistakable blue-and-white striped beach chairs nestled among swaying palm trees, evoking the relaxed elegance and inviting atmosphere of the Gyp Sea Beach Club on St. Jean Beach. With her signature delicate lines and luminous colours, Julie captures the essence of a quintessential St. Barth beach scene, transforming a familiar island setting into a charming artistic keepsake. Available as a limited edition in various sizes, the work has become a favourite souvenir for visitors wishing to take a little piece of St. Barth home with them.

Julie Fumat’s poetic and colourful tributes to the island make her a compelling contender for the Plastic Arts award category.

Isabelle Lindbergh Les entrailles de Saint Barthélémy I (Autour du rocher, Saint Barthélémy), 2023 Archival pigment print on metallic rag paper 40 x 60 cm (15.75 x 23.62 in)

French photographer and pilot Isabelle Lindbergh was born in Senlis, near Paris, and is the granddaughter of American aviator Charles Lindbergh, the first person to fly solo nonstop across the North Atlantic in 1927. Before developing her own solo artistic photography practice, Lindbergh worked in fashion photography, bringing a sensitivity to the human form, composition, and visual storytelling to her work. Her dual identity as a photographer and pilot informs a creative vision shaped by movement, freedom, and a fascination with the natural world.

At this year’s Le Salon des Artistes, Lindbergh presents Les entrailles de Saint Barthélémy I (Autour du rocher, Saint Barthélémy), 2023, a striking photograph in which a nude female figure lingers and slips through the dark, sculptural rock formations of Autour du Rocher. Against the stark black-stone landscape, a signature silver sheet traces her passage, catching the light and creating a delicate contrast with the rugged terrain. More than a visual gesture, the shimmering material carries a metaphysical significance: it makes the spirit of the wind visible, giving form to an otherwise intangible presence.

Blurring the boundaries between the physical and the ethereal, Lindbergh transforms the landscape of Saint Barthélemy into a space of quiet ritual and poetic discovery. Through the interplay of the female form, raw stone, and reflective silver, her work evokes a profound connection between body and environment, inviting viewers to contemplate the unseen forces that move through the natural world.

Isabelle Lindbergh’s evocative imagery celebrates the strength, sensuality, and untamed spirit of women, making her work a powerful tribute to feminine presence and resilience, makes her a compelling contender in the Photography Work category.

Jason Bereswill The Paraglider, 2025, Oil on linen 65 x 54 cm (25.59 x 21.26 in)

American hyperrealist painter Jason Bereswill (b. 1980, New York) is known for his meticulously rendered landscapes, in which extraordinary realism meets unexpected human encounters and subtle narrative twists. He earned his BFA from Ringling College of Art and Design in 2002 and his MFA from the New York Academy of Art in 2005. Drawing inspiration from places he experiences firsthand, Bereswill often paints outdoors, capturing the textures, light, and atmosphere of the natural world while introducing fleeting moments that transform an ordinary landscape into a compelling story. His long-standing fascination with the rugged coastline and natural pools of Saint Barthélemy has made the island a recurring source of inspiration.

At this year’s Salon des Artistes de Saint Barthélemy, Bereswill presents The Paraglider, inspired by a moment while live-painting the island’s natural pools. As he captured the landscape, a couple unknowingly wandered into his scene, becoming part of the painting. Then, a paraglider appeared unexpectedly, its neon-green parachute punctuating the top-left corner of the composition. This fleeting encounter became the defining moment of the painting, inspiring its title.

With The Paraglider, Bereswill transforms an ordinary moment into an extraordinary visual narrative. His hyperrealist precision captures not only the landscape but also the spontaneity of life itself, reminding us that the most compelling stories often emerge when least expected.

Bereswill's technical mastery and ability to turn an unplanned encounter into a compelling work of art make Jason Bereswill a strong contender in the Best Plastic Arts category.

Charles Moreau Conures Soleil dans un quenettier, 2025, Oil on canvas 102 x 170 cm (40.16 x 66.93 in)

French artist Charles Moreau, director of the Wall House Museum in Saint Barthélemy, is known for his hyperrealist approach to painting, combining exceptional technical precision with a deep appreciation for the island’s natural heritage. Through his detailed depictions of local wildlife and flora, Moreau celebrates the beauty of the Caribbean ecosystem while highlighting the importance of protecting its biodiversity.

At this year’s Salon des Artistes de Saint Barthélemy, Moreau presents Conures Soleil dans un quenettier, 2025, a life-size oil painting featuring vibrant Sun Conures nestled among the branches of a quenettier tree. Set against a plain, light-blue background, the birds stand out in striking contrast, their vivid yellow, orange, and green plumage bringing warmth and joyful energy to the composition. The minimalist backdrop draws attention to their beauty while reinforcing the importance of safeguarding the wildlife and fragile natural environment of Saint Barthélemy.

Sun Conures are vibrant tropical parrots native to northeastern South America, admired for their brilliant plumage of golden yellow, fiery orange, and flashes of green. Naturally social, playful, and full of energy, they symbolize joy, vitality, freedom, and connection. Their radiant colours evoke the warmth of the sun, while their lively presence represents the richness and fragility of tropical biodiversity. In the context of Saint Barthélemy, they also serve as a powerful reminder of the importance of protecting the island’s wildlife and preserving the natural habitats that allow these remarkable birds to thrive.

With its hyperrealist precision, vibrant colours, and meaningful celebration of island biodiversity, Conures Soleil dans un quenettier makes Charles Moreau a strong candidate for the Best Plastic Arts category.
